Art Gallery & Museum Exhibition Fitouts

Art gallery & museum exhibition fitouts

Custom exhibition displays, museum fitouts and art gallery installations. Every element crafted with precision and attention to detail so that the collection always takes centre stage.

The exhibition exists to showcase the art. The fitout exists to showcase the exhibition.

Working in a gallery or museum environment requires more than just building skills. It requires understanding collection handling protocols, coordinating around public opening hours, protecting heritage finishes and integrating with curatorial teams who know exactly how the exhibition should look. Museum fitouts and gallery fitouts demand a level of care and precision that standard commercial joinery projects simply don't require.

Every exhibition fitout involves specific elements built to museum standards: custom display cases that protect while showcasing, display plinths designed to exact heights and load ratings, wall mounting systems that meet conservation requirements, interpretive panels that integrate seamlessly with the space, and lighting installations that enhance without damaging. Each element needs to be fabricated with precision, installed without disturbing existing collections, and completed within tight installation windows between exhibitions.

We've delivered multiple gallery fitouts and museum exhibition installations for cultural institutions such as Art Gallery NSW, Powerhouse Museum and the Australian Museum.

Our crafted process

An exhibition fitout carries significant responsibility, but it doesn't have to mean constant worry. Our carefully crafted, step-by-step process (with detailed timelines, designs broken down into bite-sized pieces, to make decision making simple and easy) is designed to bring you inside the process you're usually shut out of… so instead of getting "she'll be right", you get clarity, order and reassurance… every step of the way.

01

Brief

01

Your exhibition concept brief establishes the foundation.

Ambitious exhibition designs don't always align with institutional budgets, and we understand that constraint. We collaborate with you to develop the exhibition layout until the curatorial vision, the funding parameters and the opening date all come together.
02

Plan

02

We detail everything upfront, so your exhibition fitout isn't left to interpretation.

Our exhibition design team specifies every display case, mounting system and interpretive element while your project manager communicates each decision in easy to understand language. You'll always understand what's being fabricated, why conservation requirements drive choices and what each milestone achieves.
03

Production

03

Two things happen in tandem. Exhibition fabrication and install coordination.

While our fabrication team builds all your custom exhibition elements, your project manager coordinates the installation strategy with you. Gallery access protocols, collection handling procedures, installation sequencing, curatorial walkthroughs. Everything is planned before any work begins in the gallery space.
04

Install

04

We arrive at the gallery fully prepared for installation.

Exhibition installation preparation happens in our controlled workshop environment first. We fabricate and trial-fit every display component, pack everything with appropriate protection and walk our installation crew through the gallery/museum protocols. When we arrive at your institution, we install with precision and respect for the space.
05

Pack

05

After the exhibition run, we deinstall and restore the space.

When the exhibition period concludes and it's time to rotate the collection, our team returns to carefully deinstall all exhibition elements and restore the space to its original condition. You're left with a successfully delivered exhibition and a gallery space ready for the next installation.

Questions

Find answers to
common questions.

What is a gallery or museum exhibition fitout?

A gallery or museum exhibition fitout is the design and installation of display environments, interpretive structures, climate-controlled cases, lighting systems, and spatial elements that showcase artworks, artefacts, and collections.

Do you work to conservation-grade materials and finishes?

Yes. We use conservation-approved materials, low-emission finishes, archival-safe adhesives, and museum-grade construction methods to ensure our fitouts protect valuable artworks and artefacts from damage and deterioration.

Do you install gallery and museum exhibitions Australia-wide?

Yes. We fabricate exhibition fitouts at our Sydney workshop and coordinate installation across Australia, working with galleries, museums, cultural institutions, and heritage sites in all major cities and regions.

Can you install around existing collections?

Yes. We work carefully around existing collections, permanent displays, and sensitive environments. Our team is trained in safe handling protocols and minimising risk to artworks and artefacts during installation.

Do you work alongside curators and registrars?

We collaborate closely with exhibition teams to ensure our fitouts support curatorial vision, meet standards, and facilitate safe handling and display protocols.

How long does it take to plan and install an exhibition?

Timeframes vary based on exhibition scale and complexity. Most gallery and museum fitouts require 4–12 weeks from design approval to installation, including fabrication, testing, delivery, and careful on-site setup.

Can your team handle both the design and the fitout of a gallery or museum exhibition?

We can develop exhibition design concepts, spatial layouts, and display systems in collaboration with your curatorial team. Alternatively, we can fabricate and install directly from your exhibition designer's plans.

How is pricing structured for a gallery or museum fitout?

We work with your institution to balance exhibition vision with budget and opening schedule, then provide a quote and build strategy covering design, conservation-grade materials, fabrication, installation, and deinstallation.
